Plymouth High School food science and culinary arts students attended the recent Farm to Factory to Fork Career Discovery sponsored by FaB Wisconsin, the state food and beverage industry trade organization.
The event, held March 24 at the Milwaukee Public Museum, is designed to inspire the next generation of talent into the career-making possibilities of our food and beverage industry. It promoted food industry-related careers such as those in culinary arts, food science, packaging engineering and sensory science.
Participants enjoyed a look inside the museum’s Demonstration Kitchen as well as personal contact with industry professionals and the opportunity to meet representatives from Wisconsin food and beverage companies – including Sargento Foods and Johnsonville Foods.
“It was an amazing event, unlike any others that our students have had the opportunity to participate in,” food science and culinary arts teacher Gale Litt said. “It was educational, inspirational to the students and truly opened their eyes to many possibilities in the food industry.”
Sargento Foods supported the PHS contingent’s participation. “It was a great experience for the employers see the interest from these young adults,” said Sara Suckow, Sargento talent acquisition manager.
In conjunction with the event, students in the PHS Food Science class created a protein-based product in their classroom as a product development activity.
