Dohmen buys Milwaukee meal prep company Focused Fork to advance health mission

Milwaukee-based meal prep company The Focused Fork LLC was acquired by the Dohmen Company Foundation, the companies announced in a news release.

Focused Fork provides meal delivery service in the Milwaukee area made with non-processed and mostly organic ingredients from its downtown kitchen on Wisconsin Avenue.

Karen Gill founded the company as Down To Earth Chef LLC in 2004. The name changed to Focused Fork this year. Focused Fork personalizes each menu for customers with special diet considerations such as a vegan or paleo diet. A six servings a week plan is $575 a month.

“We hear directly from our customers that our healthy food choices have improved their lives and their overall health,” Gill said in the news release. “We’re excited to play a role in Dohmen’s larger effort to address our country’s major health issues with its focus starting right here in Milwaukee.”

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

The Dohmen Co. converted from a family-owned business into a company wholly owned by a private foundation this year. Dohmen left the pharmaceutical industry in 2018, and CEO Cynthia LaConte said this acquisition aligns with the company’s goal of defining a new way of delivering health.

“As individuals and as a country, we can’t keep ignoring the toll lifestyle diseases are taking on our personal health, and on our nation’s economy,” LaConte said in the release.

“A return to healthy food is the most efficient, effective and easy to use intervention for impacting the health of our communities, and the people within them. As a foundation owned enterprise with generations of healthcare experience, we believe we’re in a unique position to bring a new solution to market,” LaConte said.
