USDA (United States Department of Agriculture)
The USDA oversees the safe production of meat, poultry, farmed catfish, and certain egg products. The USDA also oversees when any of these are used as an ingredient or entrée (e.g. sausage in a frozen lasagna product.)
FDA (Food and Drug Administration)
FDA oversight includes products like fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream, juices, bottled water and carbonated beverages, infant formula, seafood and seafood products, grains, pastas, cereals, nuts, beans, snacks, sweets, spices, seasonings and sauces, pet food and animal feed.
