MATC and Lakeland University Partner to Strengthen Wisconsin’s Food Industry Workforce

Lakeland University and Milwaukee Area Technical College have partnered to make it easier for MATC graduates to become food industry professionals.

Students can begin their academic journey at MATC by completing up to 60 credits toward an Associate of Science in Food Science. After earning their associate degree, they can seamlessly transfer all of their credits to Lakeland University and complete the remaining coursework required for a Bachelor of Science in Food Safety & Quality.  This transfer pathway provides a smooth, affordable, and efficient route to a bachelor’s degree, allowing students to earn the credentials needed for a high-demand career in food safety and quality—all within four years.

Lakeland’s FSQ program focuses on the safe production of food. Students in the program learn from food industry leaders by working and earning credit both in Lakeland’s classrooms and at local employers.

Lakeland’s FSQ program blends the sciences of biology and chemistry with best business practices to prepare students for careers in food processing. Lakeland prepares students to be well-rounded manufacturing professionals equipped to advance in the production of food while also possessing finance, management philosophy and other skills needed to lead people to their potential.

Lakeland University’s state-of-the-art, on-campus lab allows for a hands-on experience that replicates the work students will find on the job.

Upon graduation, students will have a variety of professional areas to choose from for this in-demand field, including production, operations, auditing, compliance, microbiology, lab science, supply chain, food security, regulatory, legal, etc.
